Bad day :(
Had a not so great walk yesterday. Both the dogs were high-strung from the beginning, stiff and with hackles up right out the door. I have no idea why-maybe a dog had just walked there? Anyway, Dottie barked at a neighbor and so did Gustav. Then later Gustav bark/lunged at a woman 15 feet away on the sidewalk. Disappointing.

ReplyDeleteWhen George does that, I take it as a sign and march right back inside. That rush of adrenaline stays with them, and it's not a good starting point for behaviour mod.

Yeah, I should have done that in retrospect. I am so bad at changing plans, especially since it was their "right-before-work" walk and without it they wouldn't have gotten one until after work. The dogs continue to challenge my type-A personality, probably for the best!

ReplyDeleteI've given up the guilt trip I give myself if I know I'm walking where it's just going to trip up George's triggers, and will leave him home.
We make it up by going out alone afterwards or doing something I know he'll appreciate the one on one time and will not stress him out.
Less stress for him means he improves faster and less stress on me at the same time.
